Notepad++, il noto Editor Open Source utilizzato non solo come alternativa al Notepad di Windows Vista e Windows XP ma anche come strumento per l’editing nella programmazione raggiunge la release 5.3. Notepad++ è quindi un editor free per l’analisi del codice sorgente ma anche un ottimo Notepad replacement che supporta diversi linguaggi. Tra le caratteristiche di questo software è possibile scegliere ad esempio il syntax highlighting oppure stampare il codice sorgente a colori. Notepad ++ consente anche l’editing di diversi documenti simultaneamente (tabs) oppure d’editare lo stesso documento utilizzando due views. Ultimo ma non per questo meno importante, Notepad ++  supporta il  drag and drop.

Tra le caratteristiche base di Notepad++ ricordiamo che supporta il  Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding, WYSIWYG, Syntax Highlighting (definito dall’utente), Auto-completamento,  Multi-Documenti, Multi-View, Espressioni Regolari/Sostituzione, Drag ‘N’ Drop, posizionamento dinamico delle Views, File Status Auto-detection,  Zoom in e zoom out, è Multi-Language,  Bookmarks e le Macro.

Ecco le novità dell’ultima release:

  • Add Line change state vertical bar.

  • Drop (or open in dos command line) a directory in Notepad++ to open all files in the directory recursively.

  • Add “Find all in current file” feature.

  • (Most of) Find/replace dialog settings are remembered.

  • Add a hidden setting (dlgAlwaysVisible in config.xml) to allow user set it manually to not hide the Find/Replace dialog if any result found.

  • Fix uncomment block erasing first character bug.

  • Enlarge some strings displayed zone for the translation.

  • Fix ESC key for column mode behaviour.

  • Fix read only file SaveAs bug.

  • Change behaviour : no popup dialog while closing an unsaved empty untitled document.

  • Changing “Search result” stylers via Styler Configurator takes visual effect on the fly now.

  • Fix for L_EXTERNAL in loadSession.

  • Variable $(CURRENT_WORD) is enlarged to 2039 charraters.

  • Fix the bug the Notepad++ is launched several instances but show nothing.

  • Fix Find in files regression : The result panel doesn’t show Unicode characters correctly.
