9000 Pc in Svizzera sono già dual-boot, consentono l’avvio di Windows e Ubuntu nell’attesa di ricevere maggiori istruzioni dal Ministero dela Pubblica Istruzione Svizzera il cui motto è “Long Live Free Software.” Il Tribune de Geneve (link all’articolo in Inglese) rivela ulteriori informazioni come la possibilità che entro Settembre si abbandoni la scelta del Dual Boot e si proceda ad una migrazione totale di questi 9000 computer a Linux.
Non vi è ancora alcuna dichiarazione sui perchè si sia scelto d’adottare la Distro Linux “Ubuntu” a scapito d’altre, ciò che è certo è che i 9000 PC utilizzati nelle scuole utilizeranno solo software free & open source. Mentre i funzionari Svizzeri sono contenti di salvare non pochi soldi che andrebbero spesi altrimenti in Licenze, il Dipartimento della Pubblica Istruzione Svizzera informa che tale scelta è stata spinta dall’interesse sempre maggiore nell’ambito della Pubblica Istruzione, qualsiasi studente potrà ritrovare sul proprio PC casalingo gli stessi programmi che utilizza a scuola non avendo da pagare alcuna licenza.
Perchè FOSS (Fre & Open Source) ? Ecco la risposta del Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione Svizzera:
Why go to FOSS? Free, effective teaching, “they have only advantages,” says Manuel Grandjean, director of the Media Service Schools of DPI and as such contractor for the migration department to the Open source. On the one hand, they offer enough to satisfy the saving plan of the State Council, which advocates measuring 28 “to promote open-source software” in the administration. But there was no question of a solution on the cheap. “We chose open-source software for their qualities,” says Manuel Grandjean.There are, analysis there, “a real convergence” between the foundations of education practiced in DIP and free software. Through their community development, “they encourage the sharing and democratization of knowledge, as well as autonomy with the acquisition of skills.”
