Gli ‘aficionados’ di Google Desktop, il tool di Google che si pone come sostituto alla ricerca interna di Windows hanno da oggi un nuovo Gadget con cui controllare – monitorare le proprie Mai su Gmail. Gmail Gadget è lo strumento che consentirà di controllare la posta su Gmail dal proprio Desktop, unico requisito è l’installazione di Google Desktop che è disponibile a questo url.
Le motivazioni del rilascio di Gmail Desktop Gadget sono da attribuirsi stando al comunicato sul Blog Ufficiale dall’alto numero di richieste nel corso degli anni. Ma cosa fa questo gadget ? La risposta viene ancora data dal Gmail Blog, Gmail Desktop Gadget è in grado di leggere la posta, cercare dentro la posta oltre ad inviare messaggi. Ulteriori funzionalità di Gmail Desktop Gadget sono il supporto alle “stelline”, ai collegamenti veloci (da tastiera) e la funzione di autocompletamento.

You’ll see that it covers the basics such as reading, searching, and sending messages. You can star messages, use the same keyboard shortcuts, and we didn’t forget about contact auto-complete. It doesn’t take up much space in your sidebar or desktop, and you can also resize it to show as few or as many messages as you’d like.
When I’m at work, I keep two instances of the gadget open: one logged into my personal Gmail account and the other set to my Google Apps account for work related stuff. Instead of getting lost in a sea of tabs or browser windows, I can bring up the gadgets in an instant (hint: pressing the shift key twice brings up all your hidden Desktop gadgets).

Come potete vedere dagli screenshot, Gmail Desktop Gadget non occupa molto spazio, è resizable (ridimensionabile) ma ciò che interesserà ai più è che ci si può loggare su più account Gmail contemporaneamente. Gmail Desktop Gadget richiede Google Desktop 5 per Windows o superiori.
