Internet offre migliaia di servizi per l’archiviazione immagini ma quello che viene usato per la maggiore è Flickr. Flickr, “possedimento Yahoo!”, offre decine di software per semplificare le operazioni di caricamento immagini e/o creazione gallerie. Google lotta contro Flickr grazie al “cavallo di Troia” Picasa ma i primi match si sono conclusi a favore di Flickr. La semplicità di Flickr non viene messa in discussione ma si è affacciato, da qualche giorno sul mercato, un nuovo competitore. Min.us non cerca di competere con Flickr ma l’immediatezza del nuovo servizio di Hosting è soprendente. L’immediatezza di min.us è pericolosa e potrebbe renderlo una scelta obbligata per l’utente in cerca di una piattaforma di Image Hosting anonima.
Min.us chede all’utente uno sforzo, l’uso di un Browser Moderno. Il servizio supporta il trascinamento delle foto ma richiederà l’uso di Firefox, Chrome o Safari. L’utente che vuole rimanere a tutti i costi con Internet Explorer non viene escluso. Min.us offre agli utenti Internet Explorer un sistema alternativo, in Flash, per il caricamento immagini. min.us supporta Internet Explorer ma la sola versione 9 che si trova, momentaneamente, in Beta.
Le funzionalità offerte da min.us sono minime. Il servizio offre la creazione di una galleria, cancellazione galleria, condivisione galleria online e la modifica del nome. Gli sviluppatori promettono di integrare nelle prossime release un sistema di “URL Redirection”, condivisione delle immagini (le immagini non possono essere condivise, il servizio offre una galleria) e l’apertura ai plugin/estensioni (chi arriverà prima ? Il plugin per Chrome o Firefox ? Sono aperte le scommesse).
La prima prova pubblica di min.us è stata formidabile/deludente. I server di min.us non sono riusciti a reggere il gran numero di persone corse a provare il servizio. Il servizio è ora stabile, funziona e non ha presentato, da allora, problemi di uptime.

John here from Minus. Just wanted to make a quick update for everyone as just yesterday was the launch of http://Min.us (Minus) v1.10, a big step forward for Minus and we’re very excited about this update.
Minus now supports registration/login along with supporting anonymous sharing. Users can now login and track their Gallery URLs on the go anywhere. We encourage everyone to register and try it out as it only takes a minute!

Some of the new features we implemented so far in the past 1 week alone includes:
– Increased upload limit to 7MB Per image and added more image type support
– Ability to download entire gallery in Zip format with 1-Click.
– Full Safari browser on Mac support with drag-drop function
– Auto-resizing of larger images for smoother gallery viewing experience, but still keeping the original size for direct image link
– Added display of upload progress, image size and dimensions under each image in gallery.
We also have Login & Registration + Image/Uploads tracking in the works for this week so we’ll keep everyone updated.
